Walter Wharton

Walter Wharton, a long time member of The Texas Woodcarver Guild and instructor has been carving through out Texas for years.  Walter started carving as a teen and took a 23 year break to serve in the US Army and returned to the loved hobby in 1982 after retiring from the service.  Walter is a member to the North Texas Woodcarving Guild where he was President 4 different times.  He also served as President for The Texas Woodcarvers Guild.   Walter instructed for over 10 years and recently discontinued that activity to  “carver for myself for a while.”   While a versatile over all carver, Walters real carving passion has been carving animals.  Even though he is not formally instructing any longer he is often called upon to help other carvers and to help new carvers get started.  Walter is always willing to step in if it is in the furtherance of the art of woodcarving.   His carvings have received wide recognition in many shows and carving events.
